Awards Night 2021
Two sessions; one purpose:
To celebrate our Lutheran Westland Warriors’ determination over this past year.
In a time where our students could have recoiled into their LED-lit rooms, we saw them virtually meet on “Work Day Wednesdays” to press into college-paced, Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
We watched as the community within the drama program joyfully recorded their acting for an audience behind a phone or laptop.
We watched choir members’ masks bobble up and down as their jaws dropped and they opened their mouths to find some relief in what they love doing- singing.
We waited for seniors to be able to go on a college visit and picture themselves in those large lecture halls or cinderblock dorm rooms, but as weeks passed by, our seniors did not delay. They signed up for virtual tours, emailed admission counselors, wrote scholarships, and researched what path post-high school would be best for them. Did you know that our Class of 2021 earned a collective $1,046,152 worth of scholarship over the course of 4 years?
While we couldn’t see their smiles, we did see the excitement in student’s facial features when they were on the receiving end of Student Council’s outdoor homecoming games, catered Chipotle lunch, Spirit Weeks, Valentine’s treats, and grand Prom. We saw teens being teens and marveled at the community that was being built.
At Awards Night on May 12, 2021, we recognized our hard-working honors students, creative drama students, passionate choir and band members, stretched seniors, adaptable Student Council Executive Board, committed student devotion leaders, and our very patient National Honors Society Members (Covid took over the first induction ceremony that they had planned).
Lutheran Westland’s deepest desire is that our students would Learn for Life and Lead in Truth. Students will now have certificates, cords, and medals to remember their perseverance and accomplishments in a tough year. However, we hope and pray that it is the personal growth in spirit and truth that was attained from this challenging year that continues on with our students.
Please enjoy the recordings of our two sessions below.
