Biology Teacher

We’re proud to announce that Chris Canu will be joining the Lutheran Westland team for this upcoming school year as a Biology teacher.

Chris was born and raised in Chesterfield Michigan where he graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School-North. He then graduated from Michigan State University this past spring with a Bachelors of Science in Human Biology.

During his time at MSU, Chris was an undergraduate learning assistant for both introductory chemistry and biology where he helped improve the learning of incoming freshmen alongside of the professors. Using this passion for teaching and love for biology, Chris was offered an interview and soon after, a position as Lutheran Westland’s Biology teacher for one year as he makes his way through his gap year with the ultimate goal of being accepted to medical school next summer.

    Biology Teacher

  2. Where did you go to high school?

    L’Anse Creuse High School-North (Chesterfield, Michigan)

  3. What was your favorite subject in school?

    Biology!

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

    Faith can move mountains. Matthew 17:20

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Determined, optimistic, dependable

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

    I worked as a scribe for Sparrow Lansing documenting patient notes during their time in the emergency department.

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

    Strong skier

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

    The ability control the weather

  9. What’s your favorite food?

    Homemade shrimp scampi

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

    Malts

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

    Big Sky, Montana. The best skiing experience since I have started skiing.

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

    Sardinia, Italy. This is where my great grandparents were raised.

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

    I am on the National Ski Patrol at Mt. Holly.

  14. What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?

    Planting succulents with my girlfriend.

  15. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

    College football. MSU! GO GREEN!

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

    Early bird gets the worm.

  17. Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?

    Dog person

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

    Earning my Senior Ski Patrol certification in March.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

    Don’t let your mistakes define who you are. From my rifle team coach, James Stewart.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran Westland students?

    Don’t be afraid to get outside of your comfort zone even though it may seem uncomfortable. It will be definitely be worth it in the end.
